Day 1: Dehradun to Gangotri (3,415M) – 245 kms
Begin the journey with an early departure from Dehradun to Gangotri, covering approximately 245 kilometers. The drive takes around 8-9 hours along scenic mountain roads. It’s recommended to start early to allow for breaks and to accommodate possible delays due to road conditions. Arrive in Gangotri by evening and check into your accommodation. After settling in, you can relax and prepare for the trek ahead.
Day 2: Gangotri (3,415M) to Bhojwasa (3,775M) – 14 kms
After breakfast, begin your trek from Gangotri to Bhojwasa, covering 14 kilometers. The path follows the Bhagirathi River, with the majestic mountains surrounding you. The trek is moderate, and as you ascend, you’ll witness a transformation in the landscape, transitioning from lush greenery to more barren and rocky terrain. You’ll pass through pine forests and rugged landscapes before reaching Bhojwasa, a riverside campsite known for its panoramic views of the Bhagirathi range. The evening will be spent at the campsite, where you can enjoy the sunset and the peaceful surroundings.
Day 3: Bhojwasa (3,775M) to Tapovan (4,460M) via Gomukh (4,025M) – 14 kms
This is the most scenic and pivotal day of the trek. After breakfast, embark on a 14-kilometer trek to Tapovan via Gomukh, the source of the Ganges. Gomukh is an awe-inspiring place, with its glacial moraine and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Tapovan, situated at 4,460 meters, is known for its alpine meadows, wildflowers, and the breathtaking view of Shivling Peak. Tapovan offers a peaceful atmosphere, making it a great spot for meditation or simply soaking in nature. Set up camp here for the night.
Day 4: Tapovan (4,460M) to Bhojwasa (3,775M) – 14 kms
After a restful night at Tapovan, begin your return journey. Descend 14 kilometers back to Bhojwasa, retracing the same path through Gomukh. The descent is easier, but still offers stunning views of the surrounding glaciers and peaks. Once back at Bhojwasa, enjoy a well-deserved break, and take in the serene surroundings before preparing for the next day’s descent to Gangotri.
Day 5: Bhojwasa (3,775M) to Gangotri (3,415M) – 14 kms
Today, begin the 14-kilometer descent from Bhojwasa to Gangotri. The walk will be easier compared to previous days, and you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the landscapes and reflect on your trek. Once you arrive back in
, check into your accommodation and relax after the long trek. Spend the evening reflecting on the journey and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.
Day 6: Gangotri (3,415M) to Dehradun (640M) – 240 kms
On the final day, begin the long drive back from Gangotri to Dehradun. The journey covers approximately 240 kilometers and will take around 8-9 hours. You can expect to arrive in Dehradun by the evening, with enough time to make onward travel.
